Upcoming Service Opportunities

1. Festival of the Trees

Set Up and Take Down

  • When: Nov. 23, Nov. 25, Nov. 26, Dec. 1, Dec. 2; Multiple days and multiple times ranging throughout the days, check the SignUpGenius for specifics.

  • What: Setting up and taking down the Festival of Trees; jobs are helping load and unload trucks, decorating trees, decorating lobby and gift shop, etc.

  • Where: Sandhills Children’s Center or The Carolina Hotel; varied places depending on the job

  • Points: 1 per hour

Festival Volunteers

  • When: Wednesday and Thursday, November 28-29

    • Different time shifts in the morning and into the afternoon

  • What: Each year, the Festival of Trees relies on over 300 volunteers to help raise money for the Sandhills Children’s Center. This volunteer activity will be working the actual festival, doing jobs like being the host/hostess, working the photo booth or gift shop, etc.

  • Where: The Carolina Hall @ the Carolina Hotel, Pinehurst

  • Points: 1 per hour

 

2. Purple Pinkie Project

  • When: Tuesday, November 20 during 4th period

  • What: Spend time during lunch to raise money to help eradicate polio from third world countries. When a student donates money, you paint the donator’s pinkie purple. Volunteer opportunities also include making baked goods for donators.

  • Where: In the courtyard

  • If you have any questions, ask any of the officers

  • Points: 1 per lunch

 

3. Meals on Wheels

  • When: Breaks/days off school; there will be some days in November, we’ll send out a Remind

  • What: Delivering meals to people in need, either financially or medically restricted. Must be able to drive / go with someone who can drive

  • Where: Office at Penick village. You’ll be given route sheets that you follow through Pinehurst, Southern Pines and Aberdeen

  • Points: 3

 

4. Habitat for Humanity

  • When: Nov. 24 9AM-12PM, Dec. 15 9AM-12PM

  • What: Help work crews restore houses with other Pinecrest High School members

  • Where: Route 5, Aberdeen; more info from Mrs. Matthews

  • To sign up, stop by Mrs. Bennett’s room ASAP

  • Points: 1 per hour

 

5. Highway Cleanup

  • When: Two Saturdays per semester; 8:30am

    • Oct. 27, Dec. 8, Feb. 2, May 4

  • What: Spend 1 hour on Saturday volunteering alongside members of the Rotary Club cleaning up the shoulders of highways

  • Where: Meet at the flagpole in front of the school office building

  • Make sure to bring Permission forms. If you need a permission form, go to Mrs. Bennett’s room 3107. If you have any further questions ask President Logan Listrom
